I started going on backpacking trips after dating my boyfriend for about two years. Having gone on several trips before then, he was an expert…in my eyes. However, as the trip got closer, I found myself with plenty of questions he didn’t have the answer to.

Over the years we learned a lot through trial and error. As an engineer, he had a knack for picking out the best and most dependable gear. As a crafty creative, I was able to find unusual solutions to the issues I faced in the woods. Together we were able to solve and avoid many common backpacking problems. (But more are always popping up!)

Looking back, I would’ve enjoyed those first couple of trips even more had I known what I do now. Looking forward, I’m certain we’ll find hacks to annoying things that I’m just “dealing with” right now.

…I also wish I knew a female who was experienced at backpacking to answer some of my lady-specific questions. Being out in the wilderness with only the belongings in your pack is a challenge for anyone. But women may face some issues that don’t cross the minds of our male friends.

Now I can be that resource. Ladies – I got you!
